Sometimes you realize...

that your kids are growing up. I know it's silly but one day you just suddenly notice that their legs are longer or that they can understand and say more. That they've lost their baby look and look like children and you wonder when it happened. WHy didn't I notice it last week? I've noticed that on my three children just this past week and it's hard to say if it makes me happy or sad. So in honor of that here's a quote:

It kills you to see them grow up. But I guess it would kill you quicker if they didn't.

~Barbara Kingsolver, Animal Dreams

What am I reading:

2 books:

8 ways to create a list for the life you want NOW (No opportunity wasted) by Phil Keoghan

and I can't remember the other one, I'll find it later, it's a mystery.

ugh.. my neck!

Miguel had a rough night and by default so did I. So I find myself this day with a nasty pain in my neck and shoulders and I'm none to happy about it. I just feel so stiff.

Miguel on the other hand is happy as a clam :P

Miguel has asked twice today to go to the potty and has gone poo in it. I'm so excited he seems to be wanting to go back to potty training. After we got home from Vegas he reverted big time and I let it slide because I knew it would happen. But I've been really looking forward to not cleaning poo diapers because they are just nasty. I hope he continues and moves quickly into the pee thing too.

I did a little shopping today but found minimal stuff, we gotta work on the party planning for the 4th, I forget it is next week.

This is hilarious

I was beebopping about on Cnn.com and I happened to see this video and thought I'll check it out. Well I was left almost breathless from laughing, this guy had a major fit and the whole video is to die for. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

Tantrum video

How about those Red Sox?

9 in a row! And just to boot another clutch hit from David Ortiz. The guy is like a hero, if he doesn't MVP this year and they choose that pansy A*** (you know who I'm talking about) I'm going to have a fit....This guy is a stud!

Here is a quote from him, so simple and so amazingly exactly what he is and does everyday:

I come to play everyday.

David Ortiz

Miguel is pulling a whole night sleeping workout. He needed it, the kid has been skating on the least amount of sleep he has in a long time. 30 minute naps have been the norm for several days and hte kid needs at least 2 hours in the daytime. He just plays too hard for only 30 minutes.

Ok, lots to do today.

Ok if you don't read the Guatemalan Forums that I participate in I have a funny for you.

Yesterday Miguel was getting ready for a bath and took off his diaper, I decided to review with him the parts of his body, as he gets to his genitalia I point and he correctly names his penis as "penis" then I point to his testicles and say what is that? He tells me "popsicles".... Oh boy I'm keeping that one written down for when he is older, the kid is going to kill me with his little comments :)

Kids say the cutest things

Yesterday Miguel was in a major funk becuase he slept like 30 minutes all day and I was trying to work on the yard and he was having none of it.

Later we all decided to go swimming and I asked him if he wanted to go swimming so he say "YES!" and then I say Let's go get your suit to which he screams "Shark Nemo" LOL His bathing suit is from finding Nemo and he loves the movie and loves sharks and Nemo. I was cracking up because he has bursted out in speech in such a way. He repeats everything including stuff he really shouldn't say... ahem... and this "Shark Nemo" thing was his idea completely, I just thought it was so adorable. He also did something really interesting, he made a plural out of a word and it was wrong and he word is invented but it showed that he is begining to understand the rules of our language. We were in the car and it was rainning. He calls water "Dahtoo" I have no clue why, but he starts telling me something like "mamadattoos" and I Keep asking him and he says the same thing and then I look back and he points to the window that is wet with lots of drops of water and he is telling me "mama dahtoos" meaning mama, lots of water. I was amazed! I know he is a genious but really he really surprised me with his ability to understand and apply the rule.

Anyhow, today will be busy with stuff to do and hopefully lots of fun. I'm signing up the girls for a craft camp at Michaels.

My deal of the week I was so proud of was that I went to Tuesday Mornings and found a Nautica conforter/quilt for Miguel's room and it's so adorable and quite warm also. The regular price is $190 and I got it for $60. I need to go searching pillow shams since it was the quilt by itself but it's a very neutral color quilt so even if I don't find matching ones I'm pretty confident I can find something that will work.

Ok, Larisa wants to read a book about Bulldogs.

Church day

It's church day and we haven't been in 2 weeks. I woke up feeling a lot better today and we think it was some kind of nasty virus because both girls had tummy aches at bedtime.

Miguel woke up roaring to go and has been running all thru the house doing funny stuff, church will be interesting....

oh boy... what a day...

Last night I had a wine that I had never had before, and either it was bad or I just had a weird reaction to it because I've been so sick today.... I must've puked no less than 8 or 10 times. It was awful, I'm finally feeling like myself, it was so bad I couldn't drink even powerade. Now I'm hungry and hoping dh will show up soon so I can cook. Miguel is with me and he is allergic to me being busy, if I need to do something some primal thing must turn on in him because he goes into "Hold you!" mode.

Right now the boy is utilizing all his testosterone and running around with a stick, smacking anc impalling it on everything he gets a chance to. He is such a BOY. So much energy and drive and movement in him.

Pat was nice enough to take him and the girls for most of the day so I could rest. I prety much hung out at the sofa with the computer and watched TV, I really enjoyed "What not to wear" that is such a great show. I really like it, so many cool ideas on getting dressed.

ok, gotta go and research some movies. Pat wants to go to the drive in and take the kids and watch "Nacho Libre" and "Xmen 3" somehow I don't think they'll be appropriate for the kids but I will research with an open mind....

A couple of Miguel

I found him trying to get these shoes on and I couldn't help myself I had to get the pictures. I thought he looked so cute!

Friday is here!

Woo Hoo!

Tonight the Red Sox are playing, the kids are having company and Miguel is still sleeping, but I should say he woke me 3 times last night and gave me the headbutt so it's likely his ear infection is not healing or he has a new one :P

I was looking for a quote for today but I really didn't find anything today to talk about for inspiration. Not that I'm not inspired I just didn't find anything.

I'm still slogging thru thousands of pictures to throw away, I'm almost halfway thru it...

Time to relax

After having my nephews around for the afternoon things have calmed down a bit. The kids are great and they all get along so well with each other but we always have the normal squabbles, who hit who, who threw sand at the other's face first... you can imagine, mostly it's Larisa and Connor and Miguel that get into the most trouble, they just are so cute to see together. THey all play very well together but the fights are hilarious.

Miguel was in a nasty mood this evening and everytime I said no to him he threw something at me. Oh boy he was driving me nuts. I put him to bed because I was going to get very annoyed with him.

Ok, time for bed tomorrow the girls have a visitor.

work, work, work....

Today I was able to transfer my pictures to Picasa from my external memory drive. This is the issue it copies it back and forth everytime it does it and now I have at minimum 3 copies of each picture. Dear Lord....

So I got this program that detects copies and while it has done a great job, you still have to manually move things around. Oh man it's so boring and annoying but necessary, I cannot tell you, well yes I guess i can, i ended up with 27,000 copies of pictures. I gotta say, I'm a pretty prolific picture taker but I haven't taken 27K

Our day has been normal, Miguel got his hair cut, nice and short and he looks well, darn adorable, he was so good for it and as usual everyone loved it and just threw compliments at him while he spit from embarassment. I'd love to see that habit go away like yesterday.

He is sleeping right now and i'm watching the girls and their cousins swim in the pool, it's so hot out here I need a patio umbrella.

ok, gotta go delete more copies.

ugh...

You know... some days parenting can be such a drag. YOu know those days when for some reason your kids wake up with an attitude and no matter how nice you try to be they try even harder to be contrary and testy and deliberately disobedient and you punish them and you feel like crap for doing it but you know only that will remind them to be nice to you and others and the world in general. I hate those days. I had such positive ideas for today, plans for fun and togetherness and joy and within 15 minutes of waking one of the girls had the sign on the front of their shirt "today i want to be difficult"

I want to rise above it and find a way to salvage the day because punishing the kids puts me in a rotten mood, I hate to be at odds with them because nothing gets done, everyone will be cross and then I have to work extra hard at everything.

:P

Silly kids

Fun in the water yesterday :)

Good morning!

I woke up this morning and felt tremendously cranky as if I hadn't slept much, which is odd because aside from one minor wake up I slept all night. Maybe I didn't rest. My coffee tastes weird but I ate red grapefruit with it so maybe I did it to myself. I was trying to find a quote for today, something lofty and inspirational and that would start my day off right. This is what did me in today:

If you think dogs can't count, try putting three dog biscuits in your pocket and then giving Fido only two of them.

~Phil Pastoret

I laughed out loud and my morning just certainly got better. It's so stupid and so true that I just cracked up out loud.

So I did very little of importance yesterday except we are starting the planning of our annual Gorgas Fourth of July bash. This has got to be one of Gabi's favorite dates of the year because you get to buy fireworks and make noise all day. We should be having "Chet's Ribs" which are famous around here. One of the people we are inviting when we ask him to come over he will ask his wife "is Mr. Chet going to make his ribs at the party?" The pool will be in form and I will have to make a list of ivitees to work on the numbers.

Today the girls have horseback riding. Pat and I discussed homeschooling last night. I'm leaning towards having a curriculum that is very scripted in order to help us stay on track since Miguel makes it very challenging to do a lot of planning, funny but even Pat asked if there was some type of place where Miguel could spend an hour or 2 so I could work uninterrupted with Larisa, LOL. Our town doesn't have a mom's day out or anything like it, I think the only preschool (private) starts at 3 years old. We'll just have to manage somehow.

I better get going since Larisa is doing a bit more homeschooling today. Gabi has had 100% in math 2 days in a row and is so happy. Today I will be getting Gabi tested for placement in Saxon math.

Had a great birthday!

It was relaxed but so much fun! I received a phone call cancelling our dental appts because the hygienist had a baby, on my birthday lucky kid ;) , so we got dressed and went to pick up the dogs. The Vet assistant brought Boo and Sam out and proceeded to tell me what a gorgeous Boxer Sam is. Yes Iknow this, I love the dog, he is truly not only good looking but also a gem of a dog. Best behaved canine we've ever had. Then they brought Patty out, to whom I gave a stern warning about pooping in cars! We went home and I swear Sam must've held his breath the whole weekend waiting for us because he let out the longest sigh ever as I sat in the car and started driving home. He just melted against me and took in his loving like a good dog should. Every time I spoke to him he would look at me as if he had sudden understanding of everything I said and he needed to pay attention, he had me in stitches the whole way home.

Later Gabi got 100% on her math work and was rewarded with a new toy. She got a turtle that swims in the water and so we made our way to the pool. Miguel has been really struggling with being in the water but somehow I got the idea of using floaties and he was unsure at first but then he got the hang of them and started coming to me and kicking his legs and arms to move himself, this is a humongous move for him. Larisa who learned to jump into the water while we were in Vegas spent most of her time well, jumping into the water, LOL. She is doing so good and you can see her fear is going away, I'm so proud of her, she seems to have a turned a corner.

Later I decided to lay on the sofa with Miguel to read some (hey it's my birthday I get to relax right?) and the 2 of us took like a 1.5 hour nap. That is a luxury I don't have often. We then were invited to dinner at La Huerta's which is our favorite Mexican food haunt and had a great time, the waiter, Gregorio, who is from Guatemala and I so love to have around, brought me desert which was some type of fried pastry with honey and cinnamon spread on top. Can you say calories?

So that was my day, it was a great birthday!

Quote of the day:

May flowers always line your path and sunshine light your day.
May songbirds serenade you every step along the way.
May a rainbow run beside you in a sky that's always blue.
And may happiness fill your heart each day your whole life through.

Happy Birthday to ME!

So today I turn 38, wow... where did life go? It happened too fast but I'm glad to be 38 I can see my children growing, I have a wonderful husband, a beautiful home and more than most people in the world do. I have been greatly blessed and I am so thankful for that.

Gabi and I have dentist's appts this afternoon ad then we will pick up the dogs from the vet and bring them home.

My new computer and runs like a dream. Pat and I were trying to figure out how to transfer my songs from my Ipod to the Itunes and proceeded to delete them all!!! Thankfully I was able to get them out of my backup drive and get them back in. I need to load more cd's in my itunes also.

The birthday quote for today:

Let us celebrate the occasion with wine and sweet words.

My sick little boy

Well I took my little guy to doctor and he has a nasty ear infection. He's on antibiotics and while he did better yesterday in the morning he was burning up again at night. It got up to 104.6. Maybe he burns hotter because I don't believe either of my girls has ever been that hot.

He seems to be better this morning and is back to his normal trying self so I think we might be over the worst.

Here's my horrifying/disgusting/why do I do this to myself story of today. I took the 3 mutts to the pet hotel this morning as we are leaving for Branson this weekeend. Boo was upfront with me, Patty in the middle with Miguel and Sam in the back of the Jeep. Patty starts panting and salivating and wants to come to the front, suddenly Miguel does his little sniffing thing and I smell poop, yes you read that right POOP. Patty pooped inside the car while I'm driving 70 miles per hour on the interstate. O... M... G... I seriously considered letting the animal loose in the road, I was angry. I had to pull over and find tissues and wipes, I pull the dog to the front to make sure I can pick up the middle and then she poops IN THE FRONT TOO!!! ARRRRRGHHH.... YICK, YUCK!!!! I'm cursing and screaming at the dog, who is still panting and drooling and the whole car smells of you know what. I finally clean it all up and rolled into the highway and drove almost 80 mph to get to the vet and drop her sorry butt there before I decide to take her to the Humane Society.

So I dropped the dogs off and Sam gave me the "I hate you" look because he absolutely stresses out when he is boarded. Let's see how much weight he looses this time.

So we are packing and cleaning and getting things ready to have a grand time at Branson this weekend. Sunday is Father's Day and Monday is my birthday. I'm turning 38 and if I may say I don't feel it and I don't think I like it either!

Happy Birthday to me!

sickness all around...

Blech, Miguel and I are sick. I have a yucky cough that is dry and wet intermitently. It is driving me nuts.

Miguel yesterday started with a fever, I would give him Motrin and it would go down and he would feel good and play and then it would come back and we'd do the same routine. Then in the evening, we had given him some Motrin at around 4 to 4:30 and at 7 you could tell he was warm already. We watched the Pink Panther and he slept thru most of it when it finished he woke up and I got him and oh my goodness the kid was boiling over I could barely touch him he was so hot. We don't have a thermometer so I sent Pat out to get one. Poor kid couldn't even move from weakness, his eyes were half open and he would stare out and every once in a while would giggle weakly at his sister or say something. So Pat gets home and i get the thing out and read it, it's 104.1! It was too early still for motrin so I bid my time and then gave him some and got him in the tub to cool him down. We spent a not very terrific night between him screaming for me while I was next to him and sleeping fitfully.

I think it could be one of 3 things:

His ears are red so it could be an ear infection
Rosceola since he would play as soon as the meds would kick in and he has no really "obvious" symptoms.
UTI, last night at some point it seemed he hurt to pee but I'm not sure, I also checked him at some point and he was dripping rather than peeing which seemed odd.

So I have to keep him in check today, he is right now with Larisa watching Scooby Doo and drinking Apple juice.

I have an issue though. We are supposed to be leaving for Branson tomorrow and I just can't take a sick little boy with me so I think we are going to have to cancel out which dissapoints me so much since I had many people I wanted to meet. I think I have to cancel the hotel with 24 hours (it's not a big chain) or else I get jibbed.

I'm really tired and have a lack of sleep headache.

Part II - part B Friday night

After jumping off of a plane we were given a ride by another couple from somewhere like North Dakota. We had lunch and frankly I don't remember much until we got dressed to go out to see KA by Cirque du Soleil.

KA was incredible, we have seen on TV a few of their shows, like La Nouba, Allegria, Varekai and Dralion. KA was so different, the whole stage is a huge hydraulic machine that moves in almost any possible direction. The costumes, music and make up were as usual breathtaking. We were about 7 rows up and got to have several of the members stand up and do the show right next to us. I highly recommend the show, it's fantastic.

After that we went to eat Sushi at a restaurant at the MGM called Shibuya.

Here's a link to it:

Shibuya

The food was just wonderful and tasty and now I'm just begging to eat more sushi. I've always liked it and now I love it.

More pictures

Some pictures of the yummy food at the hotel. I love sushi and I loved this salad, it was just delish. There is some seriously good eating in Vegas. Also a picture from our hotel room and one of Pat and I at the top of the Stratosphere. Wanna hear something funny? I almost peed myself with fear at going to the top of that building, mind you the day before I jumped from a plane.

Part II - The jump

Friday morning came and we woke very early to eat breakfast and head out to the meeting place for the jump. We got into the place's van and signed our lives away saying if we got hurt we would hold them harmless. We got to the place and got to watch a video with the oddest looking man I have ever seen, this guy was bald and apparently took it to heart because he had a beard that was long and scraggly and must've been 2 feet long. As an aside I was the only chick in the group. We got out and were told we would be the first ones on. COOL! We donned our suits and got to meet our Jumpmasters, I was jumping with Troy and Pat with Kevin. They showed us how to position our bodies and hands at the time of getting out of the plane and once we were free falling. We got our harnesses on and paid for our jump, the guy jokingly said he wanted to make sure he got our money in case something happened, LOL

We went out to the plane that was miniscule to say the least. They showed us how to position our feet at exit and stuffed us in the plane. THere was a pilot that had a seat and said not one word the whole time, there were no other seats and we all sat facing backwards, Troy was kind enough to buckle me in, LOL, I was seating with my back to the plane controls. The plane was very smooth riding and the view was breathtaking. At some point maybe 15 or 20 minutes into it we started getting hooked up to each other. Troy said we were going first which was fine by me. He opened the door and looked out a few times. Then he said are yhou ready and boy was I ready. He put he foot on a part of the wing and asked me to do the same, then I put my arms holding my harness and he stuck me half out of the plane. Then we both fell.

It's hard to describe all the sensations, we went backwards and did a flip, the noise was incredible, I felt no apprehension or fear and frankly I was exhiliarated. As we flipped belly down I instinctly pulled my head up and bent my knees and got into the position. Troy tapped my shoulder and I opened up my arms as we had been told to. As I had read there is absolutely no sensation of falling or roller coaster belly drop, it was as if I was floating, almost like I was sticking my face or my hand out the window of a moving car and the wind is just pushing at you. I felt so calm and collected and felt myself smile with joy. It was just so amazing, it almost felt natural to be doing it. This is of course coming from someone that hates planes and takes medication when I have to fly. Weird huh?

Too quickly for me Troy pulled the ripcord and the parachute opened. The ride down was so peaceful and quiet, I could see Pat occassionally in his parachute. Troy guided the parachute and did some twists, the first one caught me off guard and kinda freaked me but afterwards I loved it. We landed and waited for Pat. It was amazing. Just amazing.

I'm looking into doing the course on AFF, which is Accelerated Free Fall Trainning so I can jump by myself.

Later I will account for the rest of Friday but for now here is a link to the video:

I'm back

Boy oh boy.... I don't think majorly exhausted can really describe how I feel today. The house is empty of visitors and now comes the recovery effort. Except I have a focus group to attend to today and on Friday we leave for Branson with the kids. Ok, I';m tired again already.

I'm going to do my trip in parts in hopes to try to describe all the fun we had.

Part I Thursday

We left early in the morning, kissed all the kids that were still all sleeping. We drove to the airport in Tulsa and got our flight. It was a wonderful, quiet flight and we even slept. Arriving in Vegas was awesome! The view is fantastic and it was early morning so it was really a great time to arrive. We got our shuttle immediately and got dropped to the hotel. The hotel is everything everyone described, a grand, opulent, humongous thing. Really impressive what they did to make it seem like Venice. We checked in and we even paid a little extra for a strip view. We were on the 29th floor and the view was just the best, we could see the Winn, Treasure Island, The Mirage and a few others too.

We went downstairs to find the Sports Book which Pat wanted to check out and then went looking for the famous canals. It is really beautiful and so fun to walk around even if I could only gawk at the stores like Gucci, Jimmy Choo and others like it. We ate at a Mexican restaurant that was really good and sat "outside" by the canal. I think we also walked a bit around the casino and outside. We found our way to the Monorail and went to the MGM to get our tickets for the show KA of Cirque Du Soleil. We then investigated New York, New York, which is amazing.

We had reservations that night at Zeffirino's which is old country italian. It was wonderful. We had a bottle of wine and the food was fantastic. The waiter was awesome. We had a great time. I'm going to post pictures.

Later Part II - Friday, the day of reconoissance, skydiving.....

Well this is it

We are ready to go and almost leaving for the 2 hour trip to the airport. I'm nervous but psyched. Pat can't find his money clip :P

so let me add the the Vegas cliche:

What happens in Vegas Stays in Vegas!

;)

See you next week!

Almost time

Tomorrow at this time we will be on the car to the airport! I got some clothes yesterday and shoppped and had a lot of fun.

We went to a Chinese buffet we all love in Fort Smith and ate and ate and ate. Later my mom and i took all the boys home and my sister took all the girls shopping. My girls had a great time with their Titi.

I'm going to start my packing after we drop off the girls at girl scouts camp.

We have been going everywhere and I haven't had much time to write but once my family is safely going home maybe I can summarize how much fun we've had this past week.

Miguel loves his abuela and his titi even though he will cry if he knows i'm around, I know once we are gone he is going to stick to both of them like the skin on their butts. LOL

Let me see if I have some good pics to share and i'll post them.

Well this might be my last post until next week. So in case it is wish me luck and fun!!!

Recital over!!

We had both recitals yesterday and we are tired but boy we had fun! The girls both enjoyed themselves and were the most gorgeous dancers we've ever seen (bias aside right?)

Miguel spent the whole day with his uncle/godfather and his children and had a great time until he got tired and then all hell broke loose, we have accounts of spitting, flailing and screams of mama and papa. I felt so bad :( but we were there by 10 pm and he was calm by then. The flip side of it was that from noon until 8 pm he had a total blast and went to the park and train and all kids of other fun places and never even asked for us.

My sister called today to say that she is coming a day earlier because the hotel she is at is not ok and they are all going nuts. We are going to go to Sams and shop since there will be 12 people in the house! Oh boy!

I want to recommend Ben & Jerry's Coffee Heath Bar Crunch. Someone should go to jail after creating this ice cream...

So that's all we are up to right now, not much, kinda boring. But I'm really into boring right now, the last week has been non-stop.

Saturday, June 03, 2006

Woo Hoo Red Sox!

The Red Sox had a last minute surge and beat the Tigers, who have the best record no less, in the 9th inning, on the road. Yeah.. I like that!

In celebration my mom, Pat and I watched Fever Pitch which is a movie about the Red Sox World Championship year and it's such a funny movie. We really like it.

I'm quite tired, we went shopping today and had a really fun time. My mom got me a purse and a shawl for my birthday and I got some other stuff and Pat a Father's Day present.

Ok, I'm really pooped by now. I'm going to bed, we have manicure and pedicure appt's tomorrow. I'm looking forward to that.

I am starting to feel nervous about Vegas :P

Quote of the day

The moment when you first wake up in the morning is the most wonderful of the twenty-four hours. No matter how weary or dreary you may feel, you possess the certainty that, during the day that lies before you, absolutely anything may happen. And the fact that it practically always doesn't, matters not a jot. The possibility is always there.

~Monica Baldwin

Busy day over...

boy yesterday I almost lost my marbles... Miguel was in super challenging mode because we did so much car driving and were in buildings where his movement was limited. He was a major challenge....

My mom is here, the kids call her abuela, Miguel calls her Beea, LOL He slept with my mom last night and is now very happy to see her. He is also very interested in everything beea is doing, including the fact that she goes to the bathroom!!! ;)

I need to make breakfast

Almost time!!!

We leave in 2 hours 10 minutes to drive to the Airport to pick up my mom. The house should look acceptable I think. Even the kids have gotten in the act and picked up their room. I have sweet kids I know!!!

Miguel though feels his talents are better served emptying out the diaper box :P

Miguel is almost all potty trained. I SWEAR! He is one smart little cookie. Pat took him last night to go pick up Gabi from recital practice and it was about 8:30, Miguel is running around the theatre going up and down and tells pat "pipi, caca" and Pat realizes he has been without a diaper the whole time, LOL, yep the boy was going around Commando. Thankfully he didn't wet or soil himself the whole time. What a riot! Pat said he took him to the bathroom and he did both in the potty. I know he's a genious, it's obvious that I didn't mess him up with my genes ;) LOL

I know I should be doing more housework but I need to take a break and sit down and read and write a bit so I can feel like I had a little break today 'cause once we leave for the airport I won't stop until after 8 pm.

I didn't find a quote this morning and I'm not reading anything worth talking about but I did download a song from ITunes.

Big Brat by Phantom Planet. Cool song!
